Acrylic |əˈkrilik|
adjective
(of synthetic resins and textile fibers) made from polymers of acrylic acid or acrylates
Acrylic is a petroleum-based product, the production of which is ridiculously bad for the environment and your health.
" It's not good for sweet little animals or for you and me or for any part of our many fragile ecosystems to put this stuff in the air. I’m not saying it’s practical to cut out petroleum production because America thrives on it and I’m not so silly as to not know that that’s just the way it is, but why oh why are we using it in our handicrafts? Isn’t the hand-made movement largely rooted in self-reliance and supporting local and/or independent artist folks? Why aren’t fiber artist who expect their local community to support their living by buying their products, supporting their local farmers? or at least the local yarn shops?" source unknown
